Phase 1: Practicum - Where Learning Meets Experience

Our program commences with an immersive practicum, pairing each student with a seasoned licensed therapist at Inspiring Change PLLC. Witness therapy in action, sit in on sessions, and absorb invaluable insights from your mentor. Explore diverse areas, including PTSD, couples counseling, addiction, anxiety, and depression, honing your expertise with expert guidance.

Please Note: While the practicum is an essential foundation, acceptance does not guarantee progression to our internship. However, this phase is integral to shaping your counseling path.

Phase 2: Internship - Unleashing Your Potential

Transition into the internship phase at Inspiring Change PLLC, where you’ll engage in co-therapy and progressively take the lead in sessions. Gain confidence, refine your techniques, and eventually conduct therapy independently. Our commitment extends beyond your internship completion—successful graduates may be invited to continue their journey towards licensure within our Inspiring Change PLLC community.

Introduction

The Student Internship Program at Inspiring Change PLLC offers a comprehensive experience, not just to fulfill your practicum and internship requirements, but to arm you with essential counseling skills, practical insights into practice management, familiarity with an Electronic Medical Record (Therapy Notes), and training in established evidence-based practices. Our program exceeds academic standards for three crucial reasons:

  1. Elevated Client Care: At Inspiring Change PLLC, we prioritize providing extra supervision and training to ethically support you in offering exceptional care to your clients.
  2. Practical Skill Development: New clinicians often lack hands-on experience in employing evidence-based modalities. Our program bridges this gap by offering practical training.
  3. Professional Proficiency: Proficiency in intakes, diagnosing, treatment planning, and progress note documentation is vital for success in the counseling field. Inspiring Change PLLC’s program ensures hands-on practice in these essential areas.

We go beyond the ordinary to prepare you comprehensively for a successful and impactful counseling career at Inspiring Change PLLC.

PRACTICUM REQUIREMENTS

Outlined below are the fundamental prerequisites for participation in Inspiring Change PLLC’s student internship program. These criteria remain constant irrespective of student availability. Failure to adhere to these standards may result in dismissal from the program.

Before you proceed with the application, take a careful look at each requirement and confirm your agreement by initialing next to each.

Practicum Student Orientation

The intern orientation at Inspiring Change PLLC spans over an 8-hour days session, occurring one month before the start of your semester. This orientation serves as a crucial foundation for your success in the program. It’s a one-time training specifically tailored for incoming interns. This training encompasses various aspects, including setting up a secure email, drafting your professional disclosure, navigating Inspiring Change PLLC’s Electronic Medical Records (EMR), practicing basic notetaking with a simulated client, reviewing company policies, safety planning, introductions to office staff, and other essential onboarding tasks.

Training in practice management for internship students

Prepare for your internship with a 4-hour Training in Practice Management. Scheduled a month before your internship starts, this session covers vital aspects like licensure, insurance billing, credentialing, diagnosis, and the art of effective note-taking.

Please indicate your agreement by initialing.

Supervision

Mandatory Supervision sessions are scheduled for a minimum of hours every week. This schedule remains constant regardless of student availability or academic program standards. The reason behind this commitment is that each client you encounter will demand your utmost dedication and expertise.

Please indicate your agreement by initialing.

Counseling hours requirement

Counseling hours for both practicum and internship must fall between 8 am and 6 pm, Monday through Fridays, and on Saturdays by appointment only.

Please initial to confirm your agreement with this requirement.

Training in theraputic approaches

Training in therapeutic modalities is compulsory and will be integrated throughout each term, averaging 1-2 hours per week. Occasionally, this training may stand independently or be included as part of your supervision sessions. The curriculum covers essential techniques such as Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, person-centered therapy, and Family System approaches. Additionally, CBT training is available at a significantly reduced cost, and it’s highly recommended as it equips you with trauma care capabilities.
